Schlaining Castle

We drove my sister Elisabeth to her rehab facility in the South of the Burgenland.
Before we dropped her off we visited this castle.
It is called Schlaining.
 The oldest parts go back to the 1240s.
 This was in one of the court yards.
They have a university institute for peace studies in this castle nowadays.
 Thomas and a very cool sheep.
 We hiked up to the top of the defensive tower.
The walls were up to 8 meters (24 feet) thick!
 This is the impressive roof structure of the tower;
 ..and the platform up there.
 Here are some examples of how women in the Middle Ages
wore their head scarfs.
This is the "Viennese Bonnet".
I'm glad I don't have to wear this thing!

 After some culture it was time to hit the pool.
It's always a good idea to close the day with a Tichy ice cream!
